Instruction is provided by National Master Ian Harris. This class is designed for intermediate players. The focus of this course will be on mastering the most important aspects of pawn play at all stages of the game. Understanding how pawns influence strategy throughout the game is essential for improvement as pawns play a critical role from start to finish and in all aspects of attack and defense. Due to the importance of and the vast amount of material on the subject this class is divided into two sessions with each class building logically on the next.
Session 2 (10/27 - 12/22) will focus on how to generate weaknesses, techniques for defending against strong pawns and other weaknesses, as well as some final games that provide comprehensive examples of the ideas discussed and how they are often combined.
Open to adults only. Recommended for players rated approximately 1000-1400 (USCF).
