We welcome students of all chess abilities from beginner to advanced players in grades K-8. Students brand new to the game will receive some one-on-one instruction to get them caught up on the rules of the game.

Participants are divided into small groups as necessary and differentiated instruction is used to accommodate participates of all levels. Activities are designed in a way that they can be enjoyed by players of any level.

Camp participants should bring their own lunches, drinks and snacks. When possible we will eat outside on our patio, but if it is too hot or raining we will eat inside the chess studio. Lunched is held from 11:45-12:15 which also serves as a transition time for half day participants to be picked up or dropped off.

NM Ian Harris has 15+ years of experience teaching chess and running chess camps. Each day blends instructional chess with engaging and fun activities as well as time outdoors. All of our camp instructors are not only highly qualified chess players, but have many years of experience teaching chess and working with kids.

The chess curriculum used during lesson periods is designed to support students' steady chess improvement while simultaneously promoting development of strong executive functions. Executive functions are a key set of cognitive processes that manage an individual's thoughts, actions and emotions to achieve goals both in school and throughout adulthood.
