Morning instruction is provided by highly experienced instructors in both large and small groups giving participants the opportunity to work with each instructor in level-appropriate cohorts.  Afternoon practice games are followed by post mortem analysis sessions with a coach.
Each day includes dedicated time for non-chess related activities.  Participants can relax on the grounds of the privately rented homes, swim in the private indoor pool, play on the giant chess board, enjoy a plethora of hiking trails, and visit the nearby towns.

The Venue

Evening programs are a fun way to round out the day.  Activities include a welcome day simultaneous exhibition, guess the move competition, hand & brain matches, game night, a team chess match and the occasional impromptu blindfold exhibition.
The neighboring homes offer a variety of sleeping arrangements include private suites (2) with your own bathroom, single rooms and shared rooms with two twins.  Single rooms and twin bed rooms share common bathrooms.  The indoor pool, decks, and patios each have stunning views of the surrounding mountains.  The venue is located in Danby, VT (approximately 3 hours from Boston, 3.5 hours from NYC and 1.5 hours from Albany).

What participants have to say:

"Absolutely 5 stars, to have a venue where everything needed was all provided in one place from lodging, meals and instruction. Getting away from it all and meeting fellow chess players having fun together and not competing for ELO ratings was important to me. My awareness of the board and level of play has improved by having to participate. I definitely recommend adults of all levels to attend, it is a time of relaxing, bonding with fellow chess players and making our brains think and focus. I definitely will attend again as soon as possible."

“Thanks for a great chess camp! Beautiful facility, great food and snacks, wonderful hosts, and, of course, excellent instruction. I can safely say that everyone had a great experience. The team exercises were especially good and got everyone involved. I've been to many of Danny's camps and you certainly raised the bar!"

S. B.

"For years after Danny Kopec passed away (who had held summer adult chess camps prior to 2016), I had been waiting and hoping that a National Master would again sponsor a multi-day adult chess retreat in the Northeast. My dreams came true this summer! Melissa and Ian did an amazing job hosting, with delicious meals, snacks, an indoor swimming pool and more. The chess lectures, instructions, and post game mentoring led by Ian and Dan Cooper were extremely well organized and outstanding. I thought everything was very well planned out, especially the group chess activities and competitions that got everyone dynamically engaged. I hope this is the start of an annual retreat and look forward to attending again next year!"
